Third Annual Business Competition


Mayor Greg Oravec welcomed a diverse set of contestants to the third annual business competition sponsored by the Research Coast Principium and Florida Accelerator (now merged as the Institute for Entrepreneurs) in the Port St. Lucie Community Center.  Students from St. Lucie high schools competed for college scholarships and business executives competed for the interest of investors -- including prominent Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors.

Mark and Paul Chung, who operate Island Joe's Hot Pies impressed the judges and the audiences with their successful re-launch of a family business.  They moved to St. Lucie County in the last few years and in their first full year of production increased revenue 20% and profits 50%.  If you are a soccer fan and recognize the name Mark Chung, yes that is the same all-star soccer icon.  Click Here for their presentation.
A design studio in Stuart, Florida?  That's right, Sloan Ranger and All for Color, two growing lines have their designers and administrative teams located in Stuart.  Alexandria Carrigan told the judges and an engaged audience about their progress in reaching young women buyers with hot new designs.  The studio began life focused on accessories and have now added clothes.  The growth rate and increased profits are dramatically improved with the expansion.  Click Here for Alexandria's presentation.
Equine-ECO is a new launch with an ecology bent and a leveraged financial model for dealing with the horse waste from local polo and race track operations.  Ernie Lefler provided a convincing business model for both a local site and to roll out the model across the United States and then internationally.  Click Here for Ernie's presentation.
